| With
the arrival on the scene of the blu26,
the vision of producing the ideal competition boat for Match Racing
in Switzerland has finally become a reality. What’s more,
acknowledging that great design combined with great performance
is critical in the sailing world, the blu26 also exhibits the highest
aesthetic qualities.
As America’s Cup sailor and Match Racing World Champion, the
sheer enjoyment of competitive sailing was at the forefront of Christian
Scherrer’s mind as he worked on the concept of the blu26.
In collaboration with Naval Design, rigorous prototype testing resulted
in fine-tuning of the deck layout and sail plan. Her low hull weight,
which is achieved by the use of sandwich construction, and the simplicity
of her rudder and lifting keel system are impressive. Combined with
her moderate beam, these features enable easier road transport.
The big spinnaker allows optimal trimming and speed on downwind
courses, and she is best sailed with a crew of 4 when her huge potential
for speed and manoeuvrability can develop.
