blu30 - Daysailor
The sailing yacht blu30 has been created on the “drawing board” of the design office NAVAL DESIGN in Lucerne in collaboration with america’s cup sailor Christian Scherrer. The design brief described a modern daysailor optimized for short crew and single handed lake sailing. blu30 has been constructed at the yard of dominik schenk in Ermatingen (Switzerland).

Due to the hydraulic lifting keel system and the vario Kullmann rudder system the yacht can be moored at its shallow water buoy but has full speed potential while sailing in deep waters.

The custom made and engineered lifting keel system is able to reduce the draught from 2.0m up to 0.65m. The rudder bearing consists of a large diameter drum into which the rudder blade is fitted. This enables one to lift the blade through the hull while still steering.

The hull is made of a sandwich construction using FRP and Airex T90 foam, produced under vacuum bonding with an epoxy resin system. The use of this new thermoformable foam opened up new possibilities in construction and design. As a result the hull to deck joint is laminated as one unit with a distinct radius.

The drive unite consists of an electro motor driven by batteries which are charged by a small petrol generator.

The clean unbroken lines dominate the deck of blu30. As far as possible the sheets and halyards are led under deck beck to the two winches. By leading the sheets and halyards in this manner the cockpit stays free of ropes, allowing for easy and save short crew and single handed sailing.
