SUI Match Race Tour in Zug
(Zug, 05.07.09)

The participants in the second tour stop of the SUI Match Race Tour were confronted with extremely diverse conditions; they fought against lulls, storm warnings, and shifting winds. With a bit of luck, the round robin could be finished on Sunday afternoon.

Eric Monnin and his team gave a strong performance and won 5 of 6 matches, which gave them the win ahead of Team Stettler. The newcomer team of Thomas Kristiansen placed third.

blu26 -
blu26 Zugerseecup 2009
(Zug, 31.05.09)

The first blu26 regatta of the season took place at the end of May on the Lake of Zug. On Saturday, seven blu26 boats competed in the long distance race Goldschäkel organized by the Immensee Yacht Club. Sunday saw them in six fleet races on the water in front of the Yacht Club Zug. Both days were marked by brilliant sunshine and good wind, which allowed all the teams to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

The long distance race on Saturday was narrowly won by Team blunote SUI 03 skippered by Fabio Müller. Second place was taken by SUI 02 with Nick Zumbühl at the helm, followed by Thomas Grob on SUI 07 in third. In the overall ranking of the group of 30 boats, Fabio Müller with the
blu26 was the winner, and Bruno Imhof on an Esse 850 was second.

The fleet races on Sunday started at 10:00 and thanks to very favorable winds, six races could be held by 15:00. The day was clearly dominated by skipper Philip Peikert and his crew of Monnin, Pieper and Gschwend, who won four races. The blunote team gave Peikert and the “local matador” Monnin a good run for their money.

With the distance race counting double, plus the six races on Sunday, the final rankings for the
blu26 Zugerseecup 2009 are as follows:

1. SUI 01 - Philipp Peikert, bluone

2. SUI 03 - Fabio Müller, blunote

3. SUI 02 - Nick Zumbühl / Markus Bohren, blutwo

4. SUI 07 - Urs Oldani / Thomas Grob

5. SUI 04 - Stephan Eder

6. SUI 06 - Wiki Apholt / Gianpietro Cerletti

7. SUI 10 - Benjamin Flückiger, Romano & Christen

Christening of SUI 10
(Udligenswil 03.05.09)

The first blu26 showing a stylish teak deck was christened on the 1st of May 2009 in the small village of Udilgenswil above Lake Lucerne. For this, Neptun left his waters to come up into the hills of central Switzerland and named the blu26 SUI 10 by the name of “Kraftraum” – meaning as much as “power room” in German. The name lies in connection to the activity of the sponsor: Romano & Christen is a well known, successful architecture company based in Lucerne.
The christening was followed by a short speech from bluboats designer Christian Bolinger and a heaving party with a life band until the early morning of the May the 2nd.

Team Morinho wins the Match Race Swiss Championships
(Udligenswil 20.04.09)

The favorits lost their semi-finals that is why the final of the SUI Match Race Tour 2008 was an unexpected one between Portugal and the United States. Alvaro Marinho (POR) has won against Sally Barkow (USA).

After abort of the Round Robin at the end of yesterday’s racing, Eric Monnin (SUI), Ian Ainsli (RSA), Alvaro Marinho (POR) and Sally Barkow (USA) started the semi-finals at the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano this morning having good weather conditions. As pick of the bunch from Round Robin, the Swiss Eric Monnin could choose the one he’d wish to sail the semi-final, which were executed again in blu26 boats.

Surprisingly, he decided to challenge Sally Barkow, even though he had lost against her in Round Robin. Likewise surprisingly, the ladies won this semi-final, which meant that Monnin had to be content with the petite final. Ian Ainslie, the predominant favorit, lost his semi-final, too, against the Portugese Alvaro Morinho. The final between Barkow und Morinho had to be cancelled after two races due to a lack of wind with a standing of 0 – 2. Therewith the crew of Alvaro Morinho won the final of the SUI Match Race Tour 2008.

blu26 - Testlab completed with success (Nottwil, 18.01.07)

During the past four weeks the blu26 prototype has been thoroughly tested by Christian Scherrer and his bluboats team on lake Sempach. The result has been that the blu26 has successfully completed all it’s trials. This 8-metre match and fleet racing sportsboat, a collaborative venture between Naval Design and bluboats, has been developed specifically for the Swiss market.

“We are happy with the prototype and are looking forward to incorporating what we have learnt from these trials into the production boat“, was the positive conclusion from America’s Cup Sailor and Match Race World Champion Scherrer.

The bluboats team, together with a group of the best Swiss sailors, have tested the blu26 in almost all conditions, from light airs to heavy winds. Their conclusions show that the designers have achieved their goal.

"I don’t think there is such a thing as the perfect boat for match racing, but if there should be one, it would be the blu26 ! The boat convinces with it’s clear lines and it’s simple, but at the same time demanding, handling. It all comes down to the crew – a great success for match and fleet racing on our lakes.“
Eric Monnin (Bestranked Swiss Match Racer ISAF WR 15)

“The blu26 design is a excellent development for a match race boat. She demand the crew to work perfectly together. The various trimming possibilities will bring a crew closer to the match race elite, as the boat excuses no mistakes. This is the right impulse to bring the Swiss match race scene to the next level.”
Flavio Marazzi (Swiss Olympic Starboat Sailor)

"A boat for match racing and the youth; the concept of the blu26 is simple and clear. The trails with the prototype have attracted the interest of the best sailors in Switzerland. With this new design, bluboats have developed an ideal platform which will allow young sailors to become the talents of tomorrow.“
Julien di Biase (Crew Russel Coutts RC44)

“The blu26 not only looks good, but is also great to sail. On one hand she’s just like a dinghy, reacts fast, accelerates well and sensitive to the trim of the sails. On the other hand she handles like a bigger yacht. Especially pleasant is the well thought out deck layout which allows efficient and fast manoeuvring.”
Nils Frei (Trimmer Team Alinghi)

While Scherrer, Frei and Marazzi have returned to Valenica, Dubai and Miami to continue with the training for their campaigns, the bluboats technicians prepare the blu26 for her next appearance. This will be together with here big sister the blu30 at the national boat show 'SuisseNautic' in Bern from the 17th to the 25th of February 2007.

blu26 - Santa first to sail the new blu26 (Nottwil, 22.12.06)

In icy temperatures, Santa, together with America’s Cup sailor Christian Scherrer, took the first blu26 out for its maiden sail on Lake Sempach today. The blu26 is an 8-metre Sportboat, which has been designed by NAVAL DESIGN in collaboration with bluboats for both Match Racing and Fleet Racing in Switzerland.

Over the coming month, Santa will be replaced by Swiss top sailors. The bluboats team have invited Alinghi crew members Nils Frei and Yves Detrey, Olympic Star sailor Flavio Marrazzi and the highest ranked Swiss match racer Eric Monnin to test the boat.

The aim is to give the prototype the best possible trial and to get feedback. The bluboats-team sees the prototype as a great test lab. The blu26 not only profits from the know-how of Scherrer, who won this year’s World Match Racing Championship with Peter Gilmour, but also from other top sailors. “We don’t want to reinvent the wheel,” sails Scherrer before the first test sail. “Our aim, together with the best Swiss sailors, is to produce a great boat for the Swiss sailing community.”

Following trials, the completed boat will be presented to the public at the National Boatshow ‘Suisse Nautic’ in February in Bern.

bluboats wishes you a Merry Christmas and a happy 2007!

blu30 - launched (Steckborn, 08.07.06)

Christian “Blumi” Scherrer took the blu30 for her first test sail together with her happy client. In a light breeze out of Steckborn the blu30 responded quickly and accelerated well. She fulfilled all her expectations regarding speed and handling. Here deck layout, focused on single and short handed sailing worked well, her keel and rudder could be altered in draught as desired. In the mean time she has been sail in up to 4 Bf, were she still reacts immediately to any steering corrections and allows for easy but extremely fun sailing – with or without crew.

With satisfaction wish to congratulate all involved partners to this great success!
