blu26 -Yearly ranking 2011: Close victory for blunote
(Udligenswil, 14.11.11)
After having sailed the Bluboats Cups in Constance (GER) the yearly ranking of the blu26 Class has been decided. For this ranking, the best three results out of the four regattas were counted. The four regattas were Lake Zug, Lake Tegern, Lake Zurich, and Lake Constance.
Beat Müller (ZYC) on "blunote" is taking home the challenge trophy (a half model of a blu26). Second in the ranking, and only 0.7 points behind, is the team of "Voodoo Child" with skippers Dani Lucchini and David Menti, followed by Markus Bohren and his team, who won the last regatta in Constance (GER).
blu26 -Bluboats Cup 2011: Markus Bohren wins on blutwo
(Udligenswil, 14.11.11)
Skipper Markus Bohren from the Yacht Club Zug secures the victory at the Bluboats Cup 2011 on Lake Constance together with his team on "blutwo". Second were Beat Müller and team from the Zurich Yacht Club on "blunote" and Matias Bühlerand team on "Voodoo Child".
The Student’s Sailing Club Constance (Schüler Segel Club Konstanz, SSCK), the youth section of the Constance Yacht Club, together with the “Jugend Regatta Förderverein” have organized the first blu26 regatta on Lake Constance, on the weekend of November 12 and 13, 2011. Thirteen blu26s were on the starting line and sailed five races in light winds.
On Saturday the weather was excellent with blue sky and sunshine. The wind was coming from an easterly direction with almost 5 knots. Race officer Felix Somm made the best out of the conditions, and three decent races were sailed in the bay of Constance.
With a bullet in the first race the team on "Voodoo Child" showed what it came to Constance for. The next two races were won by "blutwo" from the Yacht Club Zug. The teams on "blunote" from Zurich and "bluone" with skipper Remco Sol from the Royal Dutch Yacht Club also showed a solid performance, with top three scores in all three races. With these four boats still in a position to win, the fleet returned to the harbor for some Glühwein and an Apéro, followed by a relaxed dinner in the club house of the Constance Yacht Club.
On Sunday a maximum of two races were possible. The first race was won by team "Voodoo Child”. The second race was started immediately after the first. The wind did not seem to be too stable, so the race committee shortened the race. Luckily, the wind stayed long enough to finish that race. It was won by "blutwo" who also won the regatta. Congratulations!

On the weekend after the Swiss Match Race nationals, 22 teams were on the starting line off Immensee to sail the 2011 Goldschäkel regatta. Among them were nine blu26 teams.
At the first mark Markus Bohren on SUI 02 already had a clear lead, followed by Peter Müller on his Corbeau. Chasing them was a group of blu26`s with "Romano & Christen", "Blu(t)druck" and "Vodoo Child". Even though Bohren was passed before the finish and had to therefore leave line honors to Peter Müller, he won the Goldschäkel trophy convincingly after time correction. Second blu26 was "Romano & Christen" with Oli Wolfensberger followed by Christian Bolinger on "Blu(t)druck" and David Menti on "Vodoo Child".
The long distance race counts double for the blu26 Zugersee Cup ranking.
On sunday, the first up-and-down race was started just before noon. Markus Bohren won ahead of "Vodoo Child" and "Romano & Christen". With a little less wind one more race was sailed and won by Christian Bolinger with Hans Klenk on "Blu(t)druck".
In the overall ranking, Markus Bohren (SUI 02) won the blu26 Zugersee Cup, followed by Christian Bolinger (GER 23) and Oli Wolfensberger (SUI 21).

Zug, June 6, 2011 – The final of the Volvo Match Race Cup took place last week-end in Zug. The event saw the victory of Jérôme Clerc’s team, ahead of Alain Stettler Eric Monnin and Marcel Walser.
The final took place in light conditions. Jérôme Clerc and his team (Bryan Mettraux, Elodie-Jane Mettraux and Denis Girardet) took the best start and controlled their opponent throughout the race, winning the title convincingly.
“We stared really badly”, commented Jérôme Clerc. “We lost our first three matches and had to win everything after this. That’s what we did! The semi-finale against Eric Monnin’s team was really intense. We won 2-0 and were very pleased with this. Then we competed in the final and kept one boat length ahead of our opponent throughout the race. It was very tense!”
The team from the CER started the season in style, winning events in the Decision 35 Class. They now confirm their talent on other supports. Thanks to this victory, they will compete this summer in St. Moritz Match Race (August 30 – September 4), the Swiss stopover of the World Match Racing Tour, against the world’s best specialists.

blu26 - Adam Minoprio wins the St. Moritz Match Race (Udligenswil, 07.09.09) The New Zealander Adam Minoprio and his team win this years edition of the St. Moritz Matchrace ahead of the Mirsky Racing Team from Australia and are crowned King of the Mountain.
Minoprio triumphed in the first to score two point final. Ian Williams defeated Phillippe Presti in the small final with a 2-0 win.
During the six days of sailing on the lake of St. Moritz, the sailors faced different conditions in which they proofed to be convinced by the blu26.

blu26 - St. Moritz Match Race
(Udligenswil, 05.08.09)
The prestigious St. Moritz Match Race once more united the world’s best in the Engadine Valley from the 1st to the 6th of September 2009.
The skippers competed for points in the Match Racing World Championship and a total purse of 150,000 Swiss francs. The blu26 was the official boat for the event and six of them were there for the contest. There was live commentary during the racing, which could easily be followed as it takes place close to the shore.
Great sporting action was guaranteed!
Apart from the Match Racing Boats another two blu26 were on site for guest sailing and trails.

blu26 – Sailing Center Tegernsee (Udligenswil, 04.08.09)
The Sailing Center on the Tegernsee in southern Germany recently opened their doors under the management of Stefan Eder and Florian Hornsteiner.
Since the beginning of July, the Sailing Center has used its two new blu26, GER11 and GER12. Apart from a sailing school, the center organizes events and is the official bluboats distributor for the blu26 in southern Germany.
The bluboats team is very happy to have the sailing center as a new partner.
For more than a week in July, the blu26 SUI10 sailed intensively on Lake Lucerne under the auspices of the Lucerne-based architectural office of Romano&Christen.
In addition to racing, the proud sponsor of the latest blu26 in Switzerland is using its yacht apart for hospitality sailing with their clients. The elegant black hull and teak deck give this blu26 a particularly stylish look.
blu26 -SUI Match Race Tour in Zug (Zug, 05.07.09) The participants in the second tour stop of the SUI Match Race Tour were confronted with extremely diverse conditions; they fought against lulls, storm warnings, and shifting winds. With a bit of luck, the round robin could be finished on Sunday afternoon.
Eric Monnin and his team gave a strong performance and won 5 of 6 matches, which gave them the win ahead of Team Stettler. The newcomer team of Thomas Kristiansen placed third.
blu26 - blu26 Zugerseecup 2009 (Zug, 31.05.09) The first blu26 regatta of the season took place at the end of May on the Lake of Zug. On Saturday, seven blu26 boats competed in the long distance race Goldschäkel organized by the Immensee Yacht Club. Sunday saw them in six fleet races on the water in front of the Yacht Club Zug. Both days were marked by brilliant sunshine and good wind, which allowed all the teams to thoroughly enjoy themselves.
The long distance race on Saturday was narrowly won by Team blunote SUI 03 skippered by Fabio Müller. Second place was taken by SUI 02 with Nick Zumbühl at the helm, followed by Thomas Grob on SUI 07 in third. In the overall ranking of the group of 30 boats, Fabio Müller with the blu26 was the winner, and Bruno Imhof on an Esse 850 was second.
The fleet races on Sunday started at 10:00 and thanks to very favorable winds, six races could be held by 15:00. The day was clearly dominated by skipper Philip Peikert and his crew of Monnin, Pieper and Gschwend, who won four races. The blunote team gave Peikert and the “local matador” Monnin a good run for their money.
With the distance race counting double, plus the six races on Sunday, the final rankings for the blu26 Zugerseecup 2009 are as follows:
1. SUI 01 - Philipp Peikert, bluone
2. SUI 03 - Fabio Müller, blunote
3. SUI 02 - Nick Zumbühl / Markus Bohren, blutwo
4. SUI 07 - Urs Oldani / Thomas Grob
5. SUI 04 - Stephan Eder
6. SUI 06 - Wiki Apholt / Gianpietro Cerletti
7. SUI 10 - Benjamin Flückiger, Romano & Christen
blu26 - Christening of SUI 10 (Udligenswil 03.05.09)
The first blu26 showing a stylish teak deck was christened on the 1st of May 2009 in the small village of Udilgenswil above Lake Lucerne. For this, Neptun left his waters to come up into the hills of central Switzerland and named the blu26 SUI 10 by the name of “Kraftraum” – meaning as much as “power room” in German. The name lies in connection to the activity of the sponsor: Romano & Christen is a well known, successful architecture company based in Lucerne.
The christening was followed by a short speech from bluboats designer Christian Bolinger and a heaving party with a life band until the early morning of the May the 2nd.
blu26 - Team Morinho wins the Match Race Swiss Championships (Udligenswil 20.04.09) The favorits lost their semi-finals that is why the final of the SUI Match Race Tour 2008 was an unexpected one between Portugal and the United States. Alvaro Marinho (POR) has won against Sally Barkow (USA).
After abort of the Round Robin at the end of yesterday’s racing, Eric Monnin (SUI), Ian Ainsli (RSA), Alvaro Marinho (POR) and Sally Barkow (USA) started the semi-finals at the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano this morning having good weather conditions. As pick of the bunch from Round Robin, the Swiss Eric Monnin could choose the one he’d wish to sail the semi-final, which were executed again in blu26 boats.
Surprisingly, he decided to challenge Sally Barkow, even though he had lost against her in Round Robin. Likewise surprisingly, the ladies won this semi-final, which meant that Monnin had to be content with the petite final. Ian Ainslie, the predominant favorit, lost his semi-final, too, against the Portugese Alvaro Morinho.
The final between Barkow und Morinho had to be cancelled after two races due to a lack of wind with a standing of 0 – 2. Therewith the crew of Alvaro Morinho won the final of the SUI Match Race Tour 2008.
Winning Team Morinho and their replacement crew Linda Valenti

The architecture office Romano & Christen which is based in Lucerne, will be christening a new blu26 on May the 1st 2009. To reflect upon the aesthetics of their work, the boat will be finished in black, smoothly combined with a teak deck. The style of Romano & Christen harmonises well with the elegance of the blus, designed by Bolinger. blu26
- Testlab completed with success (Nottwil,
18.01.07)
During
the past four weeks the blu26
prototype has been thoroughly tested by Christian Scherrer and his
bluboats
team on lake Sempach. The result has been that the blu26
has successfully completed all it’s trials. This 8-metre match
and fleet racing sportsboat, a collaborative venture between Naval
Design and bluboats,
has been developed specifically for the Swiss market.
“We
are happy with the prototype and are looking forward to incorporating
what we have learnt from these trials into the production boat“,
was the positive conclusion from America’s Cup Sailor and
Match Race World Champion Scherrer.
The bluboats
team, together with a group of the best Swiss sailors, have tested
the blu26
in almost all conditions, from light airs to heavy winds. Their
conclusions show that the designers have achieved their goal.
"I don’t think there is such a thing as the perfect boat
for match racing, but if there should be one, it would be the blu26
! The boat convinces with it’s clear lines and it’s
simple, but at the same time demanding, handling. It all comes down
to the crew – a great success for match and fleet racing on
our lakes.“ Eric Monnin (Bestranked Swiss Match Racer ISAF WR 15)
“The blu26
design is a excellent development for a match race boat. She demand
the crew to work perfectly together. The various trimming possibilities
will bring a crew closer to the match race elite, as the boat excuses
no mistakes. This is the right impulse to bring the Swiss match
race scene to the next level.” Flavio Marazzi (Swiss Olympic Starboat Sailor)
"A
boat for match racing and the youth; the concept of the blu26
is simple and clear. The trails with the prototype have attracted
the interest of the best sailors in Switzerland. With this new design,
bluboats
have developed an ideal platform which will allow young sailors
to become the talents of tomorrow.“ Julien di Biase (Crew Russel Coutts RC44)
“The blu26
not only looks good, but is also great to sail. On one hand she’s
just like a dinghy, reacts fast, accelerates well and sensitive
to the trim of the sails. On the other hand she handles like a bigger
yacht. Especially pleasant is the well thought out deck layout which
allows efficient and fast manoeuvring.” Nils
Frei (Trimmer Team Alinghi)
While
Scherrer, Frei and Marazzi have returned to Valenica, Dubai and
Miami to continue with the training for their campaigns, the bluboats
technicians prepare the blu26
for her next appearance. This will be together with here big sister
the blu30
at the national boat show 'SuisseNautic' in Bern from the 17th to
the 25th of February 2007.
blu26
- Santa first to sail the new blu26(Nottwil, 22.12.06)
In
icy temperatures, Santa, together with America’s Cup sailor
Christian Scherrer, took the first blu26
out for its maiden sail on Lake Sempach today. The
blu26 is an 8-metre Sportboat, which has been
designed by NAVAL DESIGN in collaboration with bluboats
for both Match Racing and Fleet Racing in Switzerland.
Over
the coming month, Santa will be replaced by Swiss top sailors. The
bluboats
team have invited Alinghi crew members Nils Frei and Yves Detrey,
Olympic Star sailor Flavio Marrazzi and the highest ranked Swiss
match racer Eric Monnin to test the boat.
The
aim is to give the prototype the best possible trial and to get
feedback. The bluboats-team
sees the prototype as a great test lab. The blu26
not only profits from the know-how of Scherrer, who won this year’s
World Match Racing Championship with Peter Gilmour, but also from
other top sailors. “We don’t want to reinvent the wheel,”
sails Scherrer before the first test sail. “Our aim, together
with the best Swiss sailors, is to produce a great boat for the
Swiss sailing community.”
Following
trials, the completed boat will be presented to the public at the
National Boatshow ‘Suisse Nautic’ in February in Bern.
bluboats
wishes you a Merry Christmas and a happy 2007!
blu30
- launched (Steckborn, 08.07.06)
Christian “Blumi” Scherrer took the blu30
for her first test sail together with her happy client. In a light
breeze out of Steckborn the blu30
responded quickly and accelerated well. She
fulfilled all her expectations regarding speed and handling. Here
deck layout, focused on single and short handed sailing worked well,
her keel and rudder could be altered in draught as desired. In the
mean time she has been sail in up to 4 Bf, were she still reacts
immediately to any steering corrections and allows for easy but
extremely fun sailing – with or without crew.
With satisfaction wish to congratulate all involved partners to
this great success!
